Bill Martin has been devoted to writing children's books for more than thirty years. He has a Ph.D. in early childhood education and he has long been a proponent of using rhyme and rhythm to teach young children how to read.

Eric Carle, illustrator of many beloved children's books, was born in the United States, but spent his early years in Stuttgart, Germany, where he studied art and design at the Academy of Applied Art. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? was the first book he illustrated.

The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! PreSchool-Grade 1-- In this new edition of the popular classic (Holt, 1983), the same clean design and crisp text remain. Illustrations, however, have been slightly altered. Stronger colors and more texture help delineate animal bodies more sharply. Positions and shapes are slightly changed, resulting in a less static look. Red Bird is shown in flying position with a sleeker body, sharper beak, and more carefully defined tail and wing features. Yellow Duck has webbed feet and an open bill; Blue Horse has black hooves and teeth showing; Green Frog a spotted back and pink tongue; the former Mother with pale pink skin has become Teacher with beige skin tones and darker hair. The overall effect is livelier and more interesting, although changes are minimal enough that the old edition is still serviceable. Fantastique pour les petits!
J'enseigne l'anglais à des enfants en Moyenne Section (3-4 ans). Après qu'ils aient appris les couleurs et les animaux, ils ont été captivés par ce livre avec ses belles illustrations aux couleurs chatoyantes. Les phrases simples à répétition font qu'ils ont très vite appris à chantonner avec moi et à anticiper l'animal suivant: lorsque je leur conte "I see a red bird looking at me", ils devinent très vite et la couleur et l'animal, et intègrent ainsi très tôt la structure anglaise article+adjectif+nom. Imbattable!

This book is exceptionnel to learn the colors in english.

Ce livre est très ien fait pour apprendre, associé à la version française, pour apprendre les couleurs en anglais et en français et s'enrichir de vocabulaire.

My daughter loves it
I have been reading this book to my daughter since she was about
12 months old. She has always loved it. And now she is 26 months old and she knows it by heart and still enjoys me reading it to her. It was a very good buy.
